OWC Seeks Nominations for Alumni Awards

NICEVILLE - Do you know a Rising Star or someone who made it Against All Odds? If that person is a graduate of Okaloosa-Walton College, then now is their opportunity to compete for the 2007 Distinguished Alumni Awards recognition from the OWC Alumni Association.

In conjunction with the Florida Association of Community College, the OWC Alumni Association will selected three individuals to be nominated for statewide recognition at the annual FACC conference next October.

"There may be an OW alumnus who works for your company or one who has moved away but kept in contact with you," said Carla Reinlie, Associate Director for Advancement and Alumni at OWC. "If you know an OW graduate who has excelled and overcome adversity, then we ask you to nominate them for these awards."

Reinlie explained there are three categories for the OWC Distinguished Alumni Awards this year. Here are the categories and brief description to help you make a nomination:

· Life Achievement Award - This person must be a success story in a state or national arena; must express their strong significance of community college experience on his/her success.

· Rising Star Award - This alumnus must be under age 40 have a success story because of his/her experience at a community college.

· Against the Odds Award - The alumnus must have achieved a measure of success despite adversity, which can include financial, sociological, physical etc. and again must express the significance of the community college experience on his/her success.

Reinlie said the college will accept nominations until 5 p.m. March 23, 2007. She said nominees may include graduates of Okaloosa-Walton Junior College, Okaloosa-Walton Community College and OWC. Nominations should be limited to one double-space typewritten page and include the address, phone numbers and email of the nominee and the individual making the nomination. The nomination should clearly display which category the alumnus is being nominated.
