Taking a "landmark step" in teaching and learning through a new four-year degree program in project and acquisition management, NWFSC is turning to business and industry to help provide a financial foundation through the "Shaping the Future by Degrees Campaign."
"Beginning any new instructional program requires resources, and launching our bachelor program in management we will need to private funds from business and industry to make this a program of excellence in learning and training," said Dr. Bob Richburg, NWFSC president.
Richburg said the college and the NWFSC Foundation have developed the "Shaping the Future by Degrees Campaign" to meet the specific funding needs of the Bachelor in Applied Science (BAS) degree in Project and Acquisitions Management.
"We have set an ambitious goal of $500,000 that we must raise to support the BAS program that is scheduled to begin in Fall 2004," said Richburg, noting that $250,000 of the campaign will go toward a permanent BAS Program Endowment Fund and an additional $250,000 must be raised for the BAS Program Restricted Fund for immediate instructional resources.
Richburg explained that the fund raising campaign "is of major importance to our college but also to our entire region. The campaign is an investment in our community, its people, and its businesses because it is a way of ensuring the economic strength of area firms into the future."
In outlining some key components of the "Shaping the Future by Degrees Campaign," Richburg said the initiative will seek to establish 30 BAS student scholarships and private resources to establish two $100,000 endowed teaching chairs which will support and attract faculty to the college's bachelor program.
"You might say this is a transforming campaign because it will shape a new path for students," said Richburg. "This is why funds are necessary to prepare new instructional curriculum and to meet upper-division requirements for the Learning Resource Center and equipment "
